"I love Vanessas classes, she is very attentive to her students and makes everyone feel welcome during class. Vanessa has a calm voice and I walk away feeling relaxed and invigorated. I encourage everyone to take her classes." - Joyce
Vanessa Engelbert grew up taking and teaching dance lessons. Vanessa continued her study of movement in college where she studied dance and became a fitness teacher. This is where she discovered and fell in love with the healing medicine of yoga. Vanessa has since become certified in Ashtanga and Hatha yoga styles, as well as, breath work and meditation. Vanessa is a registered yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance.
Another passion of Vanessa’s is mental health. Vanessa attended the University of Kansas and got her Masters Degree in Social Work with a Clinical Emphasis in 2010. She has studied trauma informed and culturally competent care and has a special interest in how the body and brain are connected. She teaches her classes based on the theory that the body holds traumatic experiences, which can be released and healed through the medicine of yoga.
Vanessa is also certified in Intuitive eating and honors all bodies, shapes, sizes in her classes. She has taught yoga to a population who has dealt with eating disorders and also to a population who has been in recovery from substance abuse disorders.
Vanessa is Y12SR (Yoga12steprecovery) certified. She has taught yoga to students from age 20 up to age 85+. She will show you how you can utilize props and modifications in your class so you feel comfortable and welcome. During class you may see Vanessa sporting her insulin pump. As a Type 1 Diabetic for 23 years, she believes in the healing power that movement can bring for someone who has a disability, and is aware that disabilities may look and feel a certain way for different people.
